Homework

We are so excited to be working with both you and your child this year.  We have a fun and challenging road ahead of us.  Each day your child will bring home a homework folder.  In it will include any notes or papers you may need to look at and a homework sheet.  Your child will be required to read every night for 10-15 minutes and write down the name of the book and the number of pages he/she read.  They will also have a writing or math assignment on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Any other work not finished throughout the day will also be sent home to be completed.  Please take the time to look over your child’s work and initial where he/she has completed their task.  All homework is due by Friday.     

Top 10

1.  ABSENCES- If your child is absent please call the school or send a note with your child so the absence may be excused.  See Handbook.       
2.  MAKE-UP WORK- If your child is absent he/she will have the number of days plus one to complete and return all make-up work to receive full credit.  See Handbook.       
3.  READING BLOCK– Your child’s Reading class is scheduled from 8:15 to 9:45 daily.  It is very important your child is at school on time.  Please avoid this time when scheduling any doctor or dentist appointments.
4.  HOMEWORK- Your child will bring home a homework folder and a homework sheet nightly to complete.  After your child has completed the assigned homework, please initial the appropriate day and send it back to school.  In order to teach responsibility, the homework must be completed, initialed, and brought to school the next day.  The consequence for not doing so will result in assigned recess activity. 
5.  GOING HOME DIFFERENTLY OR WITH A FRIEND- If your child will be going home a different way than usual, a parent must send a note or call the school before 2:00.  If your child will be going home with a friend, or a friend will be going home with your child, both parents MUST send a note or call the school before 2:00. 
6.  GOOD BEHAVIOR- Students will be provided the opportunity to receive play money to use at the classroom store.
7.  ACCELERATED READER- At the beginning of the year a reading test will be given to determine each child’s reading level at that particular time.  Students will read books at their reading level.   After reading the book, they will take a comprehension test on the computer to earn points.  Approximately two times throughout the year students will have the opportunity to spend earned points at the Accelerated Reader’s store.   
8.  MULTIPLICATION FACTS- Third grade students are required to memorize 0 through 9 multiplication facts. Timed tests will be given 5 times a week over the facts we are learning and have learned.  At the end of the school year students will be tested on these facts to earn ingredients for a Multiplication Banana Split. 
9.  BIRTHDAYS- All birthdays will be recognized on Friday afternoons at 2:45pm.  You are allowed to send a snack for the class to enjoy but it must be prepackaged.  
10. Open House
